Madras High Court Judge says ashamed to Be Born In India
NEW DELHI Supreme Court says no cases to be assigned to CS Karnan of Madras High Court
Last week, Justice Karnan had challenged his transfer to Calcutta High Court
Justice Karnan has alleged discrimination because of his caste
“I’m ashamed to be born in India,” was the unexpected declaration today of a judge in the Madras High Court.
Justice CS Karnan’s actions over the last year have been short on team spirit, but today, he juiced up his reputation for indiscipline by suspending a decision made by the Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur.
Last week, a panel of judges headed by the Chief Justice ordered that Justice Karnan would be transferred to the Calcutta High Court. The junior judge said he will fight that and asked the Chief Justice of India “not to interfere” with his jurisdiction.
“I’m targeted as I’m a Dalit” he said, “I’m ashamed to have born in India. I want to move to a country without caste system.”
The Supreme Court has recommended that Justice Karnan not be assigned any cases for now, but has left the decision to the Madras High Court.
Justice Karnan has in recent months challenged the orders of the senior-most judge of the Madras High Court, Chief Justice Sanjay Kaul, and accused him of harassment and belittlement.
