Court cases from Agra transformed to Etawah
EmailPeople of western Uttar Pradesh are carrying the impact of the ongoing strike of lawyers who are demanding the creation of a separate High Court Bench for the western districts of the State.
In a new development, the Allahabad High Court has transferred all pending cases of Agra to neighbouring Etawah District Court. With this, Agra becomes the second district to see its cases being shifted to another district after Meerut.
Work at the Agra District Court has been crippled following a three-month long strike by lawyers who are agitating against the delay in creation of a separate High Court Bench for the western districts as people from the region have to either go to Allahabad or Lucknow Bench of the High Court to file their cases. The Allahabad High Court administration took this decision after the Agra district judge informed it about the growing backlog of cases in the district court.
Around 1.2 lakh cases are reportedly pending with the Agra District Court as the lawyers have been boycotting work since December last year.
Similarly, lawyers of Meerut have also been striking for the past few months. This had forced the Allahabad High Court to shift cases from Meerut to neighbouring Moradabad district to deal with growing backlog of cases.
It is not just lawyers of Agra or Meerut who have been unsettle, their counterparts from other western Uttar Pradesh districts including Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Noida, Aligarh and Ghaziabad have been protesting against the delay in creation of a separate High Court Bench for the region.
